Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) and the Local Offer

From building friendships to developing communication, every child has different abilities and needs, and this is encouraged at every stage by our amazing team. Our aim is to support and help our children’s development, encouraging them to accomplish the best they possibly can.
Some young children who have Special Educational Needs, or Disability (SEND) have their needs identified from a very early age, sometimes soon after or even before birth, and other times their needs are more noticeable as they develop.
You know your child best and if you have concerns about your child’s development, or that your child may have special educational needs, or a disability then please come and speak to us, as well as discussing things further with your Health visitor or family GP.
The identification of SEND is built into the overall approach to monitoring the progress and development of all children. If your child is falling behind or not making adequate progress, we are there to support, listen to your views and opinions and work in partnership with you to best support your child and yourselves as parents.
We will provide quality learning experiences to help all children to develop to their full potential. The experiences and activities we offer to all children are flexible to meet the needs and interests of the children who attend. Our skilled practitioners observe children to identify their interests and then use this to implement activities and support children to meet their next steps in learning.
The SEND Local Offer is the central information point for families with children and young people aged up to 25 years with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
The Local Offer has two key purposes:
  • To provide clear, comprehensive, accessible, and up-to-date information about the available provision and how to access it
  • To make provision more responsive to local needs and aspirations by directly involving disabled children and those with SEN and their parents, and disabled young people and those with SEN, and service providers in its development and review
You can find further information on the SEND Local Offer within Westmorland & Furness on their website here.
