Once upon a time...

Lambkins Day Nursery & Pre-school Centre was the brainchild of owner and founder Rachel Forster, who first began to plan creating her own free-range nursery in 2012.

Rachel was lucky to have trained and worked in two outstanding nurseries where she gained a wealth of experience and knowledge. Although she enjoyed being a part of a busy and successful team, once married she yearned to be back in the countryside where she grew up, to start a business and family where her children and others have room to roam and where mud is very much a daily topic.

A new opportunity lead to Lambkins Day Nursery & Pre-school opening initially at the old Eden Ostrich World visitors Centre, Langwathby hall, 4 miles east of Penrith. The nursery was formed initially the old farmhouse and then in 2017 they moved into one of the other farm buildings which provided light and airy rooms, as well as more outdoor space.

Since then Rachel’s family has expanded to three children all of whom have attended and been a part of the Lambkins journey.

We strongly believe the importance of a journey where children are surrounded by nature and animals, as it teaches them to care for the environment and themselves. The approach to learning through play and natural curiosity ensures that every child’s development is built upon.
